I've been looking forward to dining at LaMoon. The pictures I've seen have all been enticing. So, when the opportunity presented itself, I went ahead and gave this place a try. This spot used to be a boba tea place. I appreciate their location because it's away from the parking madness of Shanghai Plaza and other Chinatown strip malls. There's plenty of parking here.
The place is clean, spacious and modern. I didn't know I was in a Thai restaurant until I looked at the menu. Everything looked good but I stuck with a few dishes to try:
Golden Cup:
Fried wonton cup filled with fresh salmon marinated in basil, lime, chili and a hint of fish sauce. Your typical plethora of Thai flavors all in one crispy cup: spicy, sour, salty, and sweet. Definitely try this! 5/5
Crab Pad Thai:
I've been to Thip Samai in Bangkok where they wrap their pad Thai in egg. The pictures I saw online for this dish looked like Thip Samai's pad Thai and I was excited to try it. I got my plate of pad Thai and the egg was just on top of the noodles - is it a dealbreaker? No. Did it change the flavor? No. Generous portions of crab on a bad of pad Thai noodles. A bit sweet, spiciness is up to you, crunchy peanuts and sprouts, soft egg. 5/5
Tiger Steak:
We ordered a side of Garlic Rice with this dish but it comes with about a quarter cup of fries. The meat is tender served on a sizzling plate as it continues to cook on your table. The fries are good. The dipping sauce is where it's at! I recommend getting a side of rice with this dish. 4.5/5
Garlic Rice:
There's a big difference between Filipino garlic rice (4 ingredients: oil, a ton of garlic, cooked rice, and salt) vs Thai garlic rice (soy sauce, cooked rice, butter, garlic, etc). With Thai garlic rice, the flavor of the garlic isn't as pronounced. But I recommend getting this if you're getting the Tiger Steak. 4/5.
Pung Pung Nutella:
You get 3 small pieces of toast with Nutella topped with a slice of banana drizzled with chocolate syrup, and some Cocoa Pebbles. Is this good? Yes (it has Nutella!). Can you make this at home? Yes, technically, you can make anything at home. But will you? Maybe, not. 4/5
Be sure to also try their drinks. They have coffee, tea (hot or iced, milk with or without boba), Thai tea, and some specialty drinks.
Service is good. They take your order at your table, take your food and drinks to you and they pretty much leave you alone and not bother you by asking "is everything okay?" mid-bite with your mouth wide open. Should you need anything, you can just wave them over - it's a small place.
I'm planning my next visit here. There's a lot on their menu I want to try and I'm pretty sure I'd like.
